RU’s Mike Coburn to Compete for Team Jamaica

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 24, 2009) - Rutgers University junior guard Mike Coburn (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) will compete for the Jamaican National Basketball Team. Coburn, who is of Jamaican parentage, was named to the team this past Saturday in Kingston, when the Jamaican Basketball Association launched its ‘Team Jamaica – Road to London’s 2012 Olympics’ campaign. Coach Hassan Bilal: Wed. 6/24 the 16U NY Panthers beat Back to Basics in the Dyckman Summer League. We improved to 2-0. We had a great total team effort, which was led by Davonne Henry - who poured in 31pts. Davonne has scored a combined 63pts. in our first two games. Our next game is Monday 6/29 @ 6pm versus the NY Gauchos.

Asphalt Green Summer Shootout Youth Basketball League

Asphalt Green will host its indoor/outdoor youth basketball League starting Wednesday, July 8. It is open to boys & girls teams ages 11 & under, 13 & under, 15 & under, and 17 & under. Asphalt Green is located at 555 East 90th Street in Manhattan , just off the FDR. Games will be played both indoors on the Murphy center court and outdoors on the new Asphalt Green regulation size court!(weather permitting). The Brooklyn Bears, a new AAU program based in Brooklyn are looking for 14u players. We will be holding our first tryout June 25th 6pm SHARP at  7415 Fort Hamilton Pkwy , Brooklyn. If you or your son is/are interested in trying out for the team, and are 14 or under contact us  brooklynbearsbasketball@gmail.com. In your email please include date of birth, height weight, position, playing experience, junior high school attended/intended high school. Please email us before the date of the tryout so we can have an idea of how many players will be attending. Thank you.

Coach Glen Steinberg: The New York Warriors competed in the shootout tournament in Pennsylvania this past weekend. Competing on our team were Devin Karch (NY) who was all-state this year , played in the Empire games and will be playing at NYU next year, Ismael Pierre (NY) who was all-conference as a 10th grader this year in the top conference, Eric Ohora (PA), Keith Whitenight (PA), Jason Desimone (NY) who is a National Adidas Phenom 150 attendee, Tydell Pierre (NY), and James Reiner (NJ). Playing in two divisions, playing up we were able to make it to the semis. We won the other division beating Hoop City in the championship game and going undefeated throughout.

Ralph Baker:  Adam Sandler/Chris Rock Film - Kid Search for basketball players - June 27-28

A local New York casting agency working with a new film project featuring Adam Sandler and Chris Rock is searching for some ridiculously talented youth basketball players to appear in the film.  The casting agency will attend Shock Exchange Comes to Harlem on June 27-28 at City College in search of players.

For those kids who are participating, please make sure that (i) you bring your “A-game” and (ii) you bring along your parents in case you get discovered and need to be contacted later.  If you have any questions you can contact me at 917-697-8168 or email coachbaker@newyorkshockexchange.com.
